How it works

From a few names to a finished poster in three steps

No design skills and no software to install. The layout, spacing and lettering are handled for you.

  1. Add your family

Type in names, years and places, or import a GEDCOM file exported from your genealogy website or software. Start with a couple of people and add more as you remember them. Unknown dates can simply stay blank.

  2. Choose a style

Pick a descendant tree, an ancestor (pedigree) chart or a fan chart, then one of six poster styles, a title and a print size. The preview updates as you go, so you see exactly what will print.

  3. Download and print

The preview is free. When it looks right, pay $19 once and download a print-ready PDF and a high-resolution PNG straight away. Print it at home or at any print shop.

Poster styles & examples

Six poster styles, every one made for framing

Each style works with every chart type and every size. Open any sample to see it larger. These samples use fictional families.

  • Descendant tree

Starts with a couple at the top and branches down through children, grandchildren and beyond. Up to 5 generations. The classic gift for grandparents.

  • Ancestor (pedigree) chart

Starts with one person and traces parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. Up to 6 generations. Ideal for a new baby or a family historian.

  • Fan chart

Ancestors arranged in rings around one person: a half circle, a wider 240° fan or a full circle. Up to 7 generations on a single page.

Who it's for

A gift that means something, for the moments that matter

  • Grandparents' anniversary or birthday

Put the whole family on one page: children, grandchildren, even great-grandchildren, under a title like "The Rossi Family, Est. 1962" and a dedication of your own.

  • Christmas and the holidays

A personal present you can make in an evening. The files download straight away; leave yourself time to print and frame it before the day.

  • A new baby

Welcome the newest family member with an ancestor chart: parents, grandparents and great-grandparents on both sides.

  • Family reunions

Print one large poster for the wall and smaller copies for every household, all from the same file.

  • Genealogists and family historians

Turn years of research into something you can hang. Import a GEDCOM file exported from Ancestry, MyHeritage, RootsMagic, Gramps or most genealogy software. FamilySearch trees can be exported through compatible programs. How to export a GEDCOM file

  • In loving memory

Honor a parent or grandparent who has passed with a tree of the family they built. A gentle way to share their story with younger generations.

Your family's details never leave your device

Printing

Print it anywhere, at the size you want

TreeKeepsake gives you files, not a framed product, so you choose where and how to print. A standard PDF works at any print shop, photo lab or online poster printing service, and small sizes print well at home.

  • 8×10
  • 8.5×11
  • 11×14
  • 12×18
  • 16×20
  • 18×24
  • 24×36
  • A4
  • A3
  • A2
  • A1

Print prices vary a lot by size, paper and finish, so compare a couple of options. Matte or satin paper gives the classic look, and choosing a standard frame size makes framing simple and affordable.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free to try?

Yes. You can build your tree, try every theme, chart type and size, and watch the live preview without paying or creating an account. You can also save a watermarked, low-resolution preview image. You only pay $19, once, when you want the full-resolution print files.

What files do I get for $19?

A vector PDF that prints sharply at any size and a high-resolution PNG, both without a watermark, for every tree you make in that browser. All themes, all chart types and every size from 8×10 to 24×36 inches and A4 to A1 are included. Downloads unlock as soon as your payment goes through, and you can keep editing and downloading again.

Is this a subscription?

No. It is a single payment of $19. There is no subscription and nothing renews.

What if I don't know every date or name?

That's fine. Dates and places are optional, so a name on its own is enough, and you can add details later as you find them. For a year you're unsure of, type something like “abt 1880” and the poster shows “c. 1880”.

Where can I print it? Do you ship posters?

We don't print or ship anything. You get digital files and can print them wherever you like: at home for Letter or A4, at a local print shop or photo lab, or with an online poster printing service. A PDF is the file print shops usually ask for. Prices vary by size, paper and finish, so it's worth comparing a few options. Our printing guide covers sizes, paper and framing.

What sizes can I print?

US sizes 8×10, 8.5×11 (Letter), 11×14, 12×18, 16×20, 18×24 and 24×36 inches, and ISO sizes A4, A3, A2 and A1, in portrait or landscape. Choose the size that matches your frame before you download, because the layout adapts to the page.

Is my family's information private?

Yes. Your tree is built and drawn entirely in your browser and saved only on your device. Names, dates, places and GEDCOM files are never sent to our servers. Because we never have a copy, we can't recover a project if you clear your browser data, so keep your original GEDCOM file or notes somewhere safe.

Can I import my tree from Ancestry, MyHeritage or FamilySearch?

Yes, through a GEDCOM (.ged) file. Ancestry and MyHeritage let tree owners export one from their tree settings (Ancestry delivers it as a .zip file, so unzip it first). FamilySearch doesn't offer a simple full-tree download, but FamilySearch-compatible desktop programs such as RootsMagic can create one. Most genealogy programs, including RootsMagic and Gramps, can export GEDCOM. Our step-by-step guide shows how.

How many people fit on one poster?

Descendant trees show 2 to 5 generations, ancestor (pedigree) charts up to 6 and fan charts up to 7. A large family needs a larger page to stay readable, and the editor warns you if names would print too small at the size you picked.

Can I make it on my phone?

Yes. It runs in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on phones, tablets and computers, with nothing to install. A bigger screen is more comfortable for entering a large family and checking the details before printing. To carry on on another device, download the tree's project file from My trees and open it there.

What if I'm not happy with it?

Email us within 30 days of your purchase and we'll refund you in full, no questions asked. The refund policy has the details.

Does my purchase work on another computer?

Your purchase unlocks downloads in the browser you bought it in, for every tree you make there. If you switch devices or clear your browser data, contact us with your order details and we'll help you restore access.
